what Brief keeps.
Before creation, selected files and your note are kept in this browser so you can revise or refresh. This temporary copy expires after 24 hours and is cleared when creation starts successfully. Brief stores uploaded files, extracted text, your brief and account details to provide the service. Shared briefs also record reader names, email addresses, visits, time spent in sections, downloads, feedback and section comments. Unsent comments remain in session storage for the current tab until sent, discarded or the tab closes.
where it goes.
OCR runs on the Brief server. When AI writing is enabled, extracted material and your instructions are sent to OpenAI. When you rebuild a brief, reader questions you tick to answer are sent with them; unticked questions never are. When AI decisions are enabled, the text Brief extracted from your files, image captions, file names, your note, a title you give the brief, the changes you ask for in the studio and any reader questions you tick are also sent to TypeSafe, which decides what kind of brief to make, who it speaks to and which passages, numbers, tables and images it uses, and checks the written brief against the passages it cites. When it reads a change you ask for in the studio, the brief’s current wording goes with it. When the brand pantry picks team members for you, their names, titles and short bios are sent too. TypeSafe never receives your files or images, and no other reader messages are sent to it. If you request extra research and the lookup service is enabled, your short note is sent to Brave Search; your uploaded files are not sent to that search service. If you import a website into your brand pantry, its public address is sent to Context.dev to read the pages, logo and colours; nothing you uploaded is sent. If you import your company style, its public website URL is sent to Firecrawl. Brief saves the derived colors, typography and spacing with your account; your uploaded files are not sent for this import. When email delivery is enabled, emails are sent through Postmark. Web fonts load from Google Fonts.
This instance uses OpenAI writing with TypeSafe decisions and Postmark email delivery.
when you share.
Readers open a brief with their own invite link or with the brief’s access code. With the shared code, a reader’s name and email are self-reported, and the presenter is told so. Their browser remembers them for that brief until they choose “not you?” or the access code changes. Reply and update emails go to the address a reader gave, with a link that opens the brief and their conversation. The presenter can see reader activity and comments, including any text quoted with a comment, and may enable a follow-up email. Readers who ask to be kept posted get one short email when the brief is updated. Other readers cannot see your comments. Original files are available to readers only when the presenter enables their download switch.
keeping and removing it.
Guest workspaces expire after 14 days. Create an account to keep yours. You can delete a brief or your account from the dashboard. Removing a file takes it out of your draft and stops its download at once; the shared brief keeps its content and images until you publish the next version, unless you choose to remove it from the shared brief now. Wording written from it changes when you rebuild and publish. Deleting the whole brief removes its published version and associated reader records.
Numeric usage records are retained for cost accounting. A signed browser cookie and hashed email/network counters limit repeated free attempts. Daily and monthly rate counters expire at the end of their period. Separate keyed introductory-usage records persist while the introductory offer operates, including after account deletion, so deleting an account does not renew the offer. These records are pseudonymous, not anonymous. The cookie lasts up to 30 days. Brief does not fingerprint your device. Free shared briefs include a Brief link with an opaque referral code; it contains no reader email, document slug or access credential. Deletion from Brief cannot recall files or emails already delivered. Deleted material can remain in server backups for up to about two weeks (longer if the host keeps snapshots) before it is gone.
